Admitted to a training centre but still without a company for the 2026 start? Don't give up on your apprenticeship: the law lets you begin your training without an employer and gives you three months to sign your apprenticeship contract. Here's how to turn that window to your advantage with SuperAlternant.

The 3-month rule, made simple

Under the French "Avenir professionnel" law, a young person can enter a CFA (apprentice training centre) without having signed a contract. You then have a maximum of 3 months, from the start of the training cycle, to find an employer and sign your apprenticeship contract.

In practice:

  • You attend classes from day one, without losing the year.
  • The CFA actively supports your search for a company.
  • You can sign your contract at any time during those 3 months.

It's a real safety net: you keep your place in training while you land the company you're missing.

What status and pay during this period?

Until the contract is signed, you have the status of vocational training trainee. You are not yet an employee, so you do not receive any pay from a company during this phase.

As soon as you sign, everything changes: you become a salaried apprentice and receive your apprentice pay, calculated as a percentage of the minimum wage based on your age and year of study. Good to know: the contract length is reduced by the number of months already elapsed since the start of training, and time spent at the CFA cannot be less than 25% of the total length of the contract.

Why now is the right time to sign

Companies have every reason to recruit this summer. In 2026, hiring an apprentice opens the right to a hiring subsidy of up to €6,000 in the first year, paid automatically by the services and payment agency. And since 27 May 2026, an administrative simplification has removed the prior declaration that weighed on employers: recruiting an apprentice has never been simpler for a company.

In other words: your application lands at the right moment. It's up to you to make it irresistible.

Three actions to take during your 3 months

  1. Send targeted applications. Polish your file with our guide to the CV and cover letter for work-study, then apply to work-study offers on SuperAlternant.
  2. Target the sectors that are hiring. Digital, retail, industry, personal services: discover the sectors hiring the most in work-study in 2026 to focus your efforts where the jobs are.
  3. Prepare every interview. A meeting you've earned mustn't slip away: apply our tips to ace your work-study interview.

In apprenticeships, a large share of contracts come through networking and speculative applications. During your 3 months, call on your CFA, your teachers and companies near you: no one should be unaware that you're looking.

And if you don't have a training place yet?

The 3-month window only applies once you're enrolled at a CFA. If you're still looking for a programme, start by finding your work-study place in 2026 and, if Parcoursup left you without a solution, explore work-study as a plan B after Parcoursup. The new year is coming, but nothing is decided yet. Start training, activate your network and sign your contract within 3 months: your 2026 work-study journey starts now. Good luck with your search!
